Mike Fleiss Claims Ex Is Violating Their Co-Parenting Plan

Mike Fleiss, the creator of The Bachelor and other popular reality TV shows, claims that his ex-spouse, Laura Kaeppeler, is violating their separation agreement.

Co-parenting & Lack of Communication

Mike and Laura settled their divorce case last month. Mike agreed to pay Laura $10 million, and they decided to share 50/50 joint legal and physical custody of their son. Laura also agreed to drop her domestic violence restraining order against Mike.

According to TMZ, Mike paid Laura the settlement amount and she left for Hawaii on August 4, 2019. Since then, Mike has been unable to communicate with the children. Per their agreement, Laura can live in Hawaii, but she has to meet certain obligations, including meeting with a psychologist to develop effective co-parenting skills.

Determining an Effective Co-Parenting Plan

Co-parenting can be made easier if the parties have an effective parenting plan in place. A parenting plan is a written document that outlines how parents will raise their child after separation or divorce. The plan can focus on issues such as how decisions will be made about the children; how information will be shared between the parents; and when each parent will spend time with the children.

An effective and detailed parenting plan allows parents to deal with day-to-day decisions with ease, such that the children experience less stress and uncertainty related to their parents’ separation or divorce. If parents are struggling to communicate, parallel parenting may be considered.

In parallel parenting, as opposed to co-parenting, parents disengage from each other as much as possible while still remaining active in their children’s lives. It usually requires a highly detailed parenting plan that provides instructions for the situations parents encounter after divorce. A parenting coordinator or toll, such as Our Family Wizard, can also help parents communicate more effectively.
