Should You Tell Your Closest Friends Everything About Your Upcoming Divorce?

The breakdown of your marriage is a very personal and delicate matter, and weighing the announcement of an impending divorce may be stressful. Ultimately, it is up to you whether you want to share the details about your upcoming divorce with your closest friends.

It might be helpful to wait until you feel comfortable with sharing those intimate details with your friends. It might also be a good idea to talk to someone who you can trust. If you are concerned that one of your friends will broadcast your personal information, then you may want to hold off on telling that person until the divorce is set.

If you are unsure about whether you want to go through with your divorce, it is important to separate yourself from the bias opinions of others and determine what you and your spouse truly want. It is often the case that your friends’ loyalty to you blinds them from understanding the context in which the marital problems have developed over time. This may result in them placing an overwhelming pressure on you to proceed with the divorce.

In the end of the day, it is hard to go through things alone. Our closest friends often provide us with comfort and emotional support. Telling them everything about your upcoming divorce may be helpful, but is also a decision that you should carefully think through first.
